Recap of IAMOT 2025 in Montreal: A Week at the Heart of Responsible Technological Innovation
From June 14 to 19, 2025, the city of Montreal hosted the 34th edition of the International Association for Management of Technology (IAMOT), a key global event for researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers in technology and innovation management. Co-organized by the Centre de recherche sur les organisations intelligentes (CRoi) and the SDG Innovation Network, this year’s conference brought together several hundred participants around the theme: “Technology Management for Intelligent, Open and Responsible Organizations and Ecosystems.”
A Strong Academic Kickoff with the Doctoral Colloquium
The first two days were dedicated to the Doctoral Colloquium, setting the academic tone for the week. Hosted at École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), it allowed early-career researchers to dive into key methodological and academic challenges such as “Publish or Perish” and the evolving role of research in the era of artificial intelligence.
Guided by esteemed mentors—Laure Morel, Mauricio Camargo, Vincent Dutot, Nazrul Islam, Breno Nunes, Mario Bourgault, and Fabiano Armellini—from France, the UK, and Canada, participants received high-quality academic support.
Beyond formal presentations, the colloquium fostered strong connections between PhD students and faculty through open discussions, networking sessions, and friendly social activities.
IAMOT’s 34th Conference: An Exceptionally Rich Scientific Program
Over three full days at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, more than 200 scientific presentations explored a wide array of topics: circular economy management, the transition to Industry 5.0, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, technology performance metrics, digital twins, and the adoption of technologies in sustainable agri-food supply chains.
Special focus was given to innovation in emerging economies, responsible business models, and the role of women in social innovation.
A poster session also showcased cutting-edge projects in digital transformation, sustainability, health, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A major highlight was the SDG4SDG panel, featuring speakers from Alstom, Norda Stelo, and Toucan Solutions, offering concrete examples of how smart, sustainable technologies can actively support the SDGs.
Another key moment was the “Meet the Editors” roundtable, where participants had a rare opportunity to engage with editors from leading journals such as Technological Forecasting & Social Change, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, International Journal of Information Management, Journal of Manufacturing Technology Management, and Systèmes d’information et management. This discussion helped demystify editorial expectations and provided strategies for increasing the impact of academic research.
Inspiring Keynote Speakers
The event was energized by three world-renowned keynote speakers:
-
Navi Radjou, bestselling author and thought leader in frugal innovation, delivered a powerful talk on creating more value with fewer resources.
-
Catherine Beaudry, professor at Polytechnique Montréal, emphasized the importance of integrated ecosystems to foster sustainable innovation.
-
Danny Di Perna, Executive Vice President at Alstom, shared the company’s R³ approach (Reliable · Resilient · Railways) for transforming rail infrastructure responsibly.
Dynamic Networking and Meaningful Exchanges
IAMOT 2025 wasn’t just about academic exchange. Networking cocktails, cultural activities around Montreal, and a prestigious gala dinner helped forge strong bonds between research and industry communities in a spirit of collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Closing with Real-World Insights
The conference concluded on June 19 with industrial site visits to CAE, The Smart Factory by Deloitte, and the CHUM. These field trips offered participants the opportunity to witness emerging technologies in action and engage directly with industry experts.
IAMOT 2025 successfully reaffirmed Montreal’s position as a hub for responsible technological innovation—where science, society, and industry come together to build a smarter, more sustainable future.
